As I have mentioned in previous posts, Alessi is one of those little girls that should come with a CAUTION label. When she doesn't want to do something, she lets it be known and is quite adamant with her refusal. So when it finally came time for us to bring her to the dentist, we opted against Annika's dentist (family friend Georgia) and decided to go with our neighbor Jill.
Jill is a dentist by profession but treating children is not her specialty. We thought she would be hesitant to work on Alessi but she readily agreed much to our surprise. We chose Jill because she is very close to the girls! Alessi actually allows her to examine her body parts everytime we have a medical emergency at home. Not only is she a dentist, she covers as an ER doctor and pediatrician to her 3 kids and to mine as well. Since Alessi is familiar with Jill, this would make her first experience with the dentist less frightening.
Alessi was at her best behavior all throughout the check-up. She didn't even have to be restrained. After Annika was done demonstrating on the dental chair, Alessi climbed up and opened her mouth automatically. Jill was so patient even if Alessi was annoying (my description, not hers). She was pretending to spit every 5 minutes! Annika kept on hovering pa which made her work doubly hard. But in the end, she prevailed! Not one tantrum from Alessi. A miracle in itself.
Jill says Annika has no cavities but that Alessi's right upper molar is starting to rot. Oh no. I don't think Alessi will be as calm with Jill holding a drill to her mouth! We'll just have to wait and see.
